Building with marshmallows

For one of our activities counting down to Christmas, we pulled out some marshmallows and toothpicks. We had never done this before, but I had seen it here and thought it would be a fun wintery activity since the marshmallows are white and fluffy just like snow.

I started out sticking the marshmallows and toothpicks together to get the girls' imaginations going.

Mina loved making a spiky ball...

She is very happy with her little creation.

Then Mina and Lou began working together. I love to see them help each other out and the rare times when this help is actually accepted on both sides.

Together they were able to create this cool snake.

Lou's little marshmallow snowman.

The snowman now has a little friend.

Maisy and I made a little house and these 4-legged marshmallow creatures that had a nice conversation.

Have your kids tinkered with marshmallows?  What creations do they come up with?

  1. What a brilliant idea - small hands can certainly manage the squishiness of the marshmallow!

  2. I keep buying marshmallows but not using them in this way before they get eatin up. I like this sculpture. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to your family! Thanks for the card.
